This module starts in Windhoek. The next day sees a departure to Gobabis en-route to Botswana. Welcome to the “Gateway to the Okavango” namely Maun. Maun is a thriving tourist town, “infamous” for its infestation of donkeys! Day 16 (main tour) includes a 4X4 transfer to your lodge as well as day and night game drives.

Windhoek - Gobabis - Maun -  Outside Moremi - Nata -  Chobe -  Livingstone

We head to the capital, Windhoek, with its 250 000 inhabitants, the biggest city in the country.

The attractive town lies at an altitude of 1650 metres in a beautiful valley bordered by the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas mountains in the south. Towards the west, stretches the Khomas Highland to the Namib and the coast.

Clients who only join for Module 3 should pre-book activities for Windhoek, depending on your arrival time. A briefing will be held for you in the hotel lobby at 19:00

Gobabis is situated on the route from Windhoek to Botswana, 110 km from the Buitepos Border post with Botswana. In the heart of the cattle farming area, it is considered to be the capital of the east and also known as the “Little Texas” of Namibia.

In fact Gobabis is so proud of its cattle farming that a statue of a large bull with the inscription “Welcome to Cattle Country” greets visitors to the town.

Maun is known as the gateway to the Okavango. Since Maun's founding in 1915 as the tribal capital of the Batawana people, it has had a reputation as a hard-living 'Wild West' town helping the local cattle ranching and hunting operations.

However, with the growth of the tourism industry and the completion of the tar road from Nata in the early 1990s, Maun has developed swiftly and is now home to over 30 000 people.

Maun is today a thriving tourist town, infamous for its infestation of donkeys and to a lesser extent goats. These animals can be seen standing around town as the local farmers arrive in the innumerable taxis to sell their wares on the curbside.

We overnight in the newly built Mogothlo Safari Lodge situated next to the Khwai River or in Mankwe Bush Lodge just outside Moremi. A 4x4 transfer to the lodge is included as well as day (full) and night game drives. You can expect to sleep in luxury tents and the camps offer highly recommended guided walks in the morning.

After the morning’s activities at the lodge, you will be transferred back in 4x4 vehicles to Maun, before we continue (in our air-conditioned touring vehicle) to Nata. Your accommodation is an oasis set among the Mokolwane palms on the edge of the pans.

It is ideally situated close to the entrance to the Nata Sanctuary and is just off the main road, 10 km from Nata village. This is the junction to the Okavango, Chobe and Francistown areas.

Before breakfast we go on a Pan Trip. This (included) activity lasts 3 hours and will take place in open vehicles. 
 
After breakfast we head to Chobe National Park, an 11 000 sq kilometer area which is unique in the abundance of wildlife and true African nature. Chobe is also home to one of the largest elephant populations in Southern Africa.
 
You are welcome to explore the bustling little town of Kasane (optional extra). As there are no boundary fences between the Park and Kasane, game such as elephant and hippo can frequently be seen wandering down the road and through Kasane.\
 
In the late afternoon we have an included Boat Cruise on the Chobe River for you. You have an excellent chance of spotting game in the area. Going into the National Park via a boat is a wonderful and somewhat different way of viewing the game. At dry season in particular, the wildlife congregate in their thousands at the water’s edge to quench their thirst

Before we depart to Livingstone we partake in an included open-vehicle Game Drive in the Park. This is your last chance to get a few memorable photographs of the animals and the area itself.
 

Livingstone used to be called “Old Drift” but was named after missionary David Livingstone on 5 February 1905. He brought the mighty “Mosi-oa-tunya” to the world and gave the falls their more internationally recognized name, Victoria Falls (named after Queen Victoria).
 
We will spend the last two days of our tour in Southern Africa in this area. There will be an opportunity to see a DVD and book some exciting activities for the following day in the area of Livingstone and the Vic Falls at Safari Par Excellence before checking in at our accommodation. 
 

The rest of the day will be at leisure. Should time allow, you are welcome to do some optional activities this afternoon already (NOT included).
 

Spend the day at leisure in the Livingstone area and enjoy some optional activities (NOT included) in and around Livingstone that you booked yesterday. Should you change your mind, you are more than welcome to still book activities today as well. 
 
At the Victoria Falls the columns of spray can be seen from miles away as 546 million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge (at the height of the flood season) over a width of nearly two kilometers into a deep gorge over 100 meters below.
 
You are welcome to visit the Livingstone Museum (biggest and oldest museum in Zambia) or the local craft markets in town for some last minute souvenirs to take home (NOT included).
 
You will also be able to order lunch at the Waterfront from where most of the activities take place.

Enjoy the last few hours in Livingstone. Believe it or not, but it is time to say “good bye”. 
 
A transfer from the hotel to the airport (NOT included) can be arranged. Flight to Johannesburg NOT included.
